The Fund for American Studies is holding its 25th year of Teaching Freedom in Europe. TFAS first expanded internationally in 1993 by establishing its premier international institute, the American Institute on Political and Economic Systems (AIPES) in Prague, Czech Republic. AIPES is hosted at Charles University, their long-standing European partner, whose own founding dates back to 1347. Through AIPES and Charles University, TFAS has educated over 2500 students from 50 different countries during its 25 summers in Prague. TFAS is also honored to be celebrating its own anniversary in conjunction with the centennial celebration of Czechoslovakia and the 25th year of independence for both the Czech and Slovak Republics.

AIPES is a comprehensive summer institute. The academic core consists of the following subjects: conflict management, political economy, political philosophy, and ethics in society. These two courses are taught by American professors. AIPES also offers two workshops: economics in transition and democracies in transition taught by international experts from governments and civil society. Upon successful completion of AIPES, Charles University awards 9 ECTS credits.

AIPES 2018 will take place from 7-31 July, 2018. TFAS International alumni from around the globe will join the AIPES class from 27-31 July to celebrate 25 years of Teaching Freedom. These reunions are not held every year, so this is an extraordinary opportunity for the AIPES 2018 class.
