North Korean refugee author Sungju Lee will be the featured speaker at the first Teach North Korean Refugees Global Leadership Forum.
In September 2016, Lee published Every Falling Star: The True Story of How I Survived and Escaped North Korea. He was born into an affluent family in North Korea, but his world was turned upside down when his father fell out of favor when Kim
Jong-il became leader of the country. He starved, eventually becoming a street beggar, then later a gang member stealing and fighting his way to survival.
Lee escaped North Korea, settling in South Korea. He was the first North Korean refugee to intern at the Canadian parliament and he has worked with a number of NGOs aiding North Korean refugees. He hopes to get a PhD in reunification so he can play a role with the eventual reuniting of North and South Korea.
He is a dynamic speaker with a powerful story. He was the winner of the first Teach North Korean Refugees English Speech Contest in February 2015, and has spoken to audiences around the world. Every Falling Star won the 2016 CYBILS Award for Young Adult nonfiction.
Join Teach North Korean Refugees for what should be an informative discussion with a young North Korean refugee who has dreams of changing the world.
