VP of Training and Events to assume new executive role
[ARLINGTON, VA – December 9, 2019] – Atlas Network is pleased to announce that Dr. Lyall Swim has been named Chief Operating Officer for the organization. In his new role, Dr. Swim will lead the organization’s team and systems development as Atlas Network continues to grow in size, reach, and impact.
Dr. Swim, who joined Atlas Network in January 2018 as Director of Training, has overseen major changes to the organization’s signature training programs, which annually help more than 1,000 think tank leaders from around the world discover best-fit practices in both organizational and leadership skills. Under his guidance, Atlas Leadership Academy has added new programs designed to build management capacity for staff at all levels of their careers.
“Working for Atlas Network and with our global partners for the past two years has been one of the professional highlights of my life,” says Dr. Swim. “I’m humbled and excited for this new opportunity to help Atlas Network and our partners continue to grow and reach new levels of impact around the world.”
In addition to his leadership in guiding the evolution of the Atlas Leadership Academy, Dr. Swim has also leveraged his doctoral research on creating opportunities for effective diffusion of innovative ideas into the mainstream to give hundreds of think tank leaders a broader vision on how to achieve lasting local change. In “Can Think Tanks Create the Inevitable?” Dr. Swim addresses inflection points—marketing, measurement, messaging, modification, and mobilization—that he believes that think tanks can adapt to can help to propel positive change.

Prior to joining Atlas Network, Dr. Swim headed a consulting practice that provided operational, leadership, and strategy consulting for start-up firms. He also facilitated online and in-person trainings for more than 20,000 adult learners for a wide range of government, non-profit and business organizations. Dr. Swim earned a doctorate in education with an emphasis on organizational leadership from Pepperdine University and an MBA and BA from Brigham Young University. His research and writing on leadership, ethics, education reform, adult learning, and innovation adoption have been published in a range of peer-reviewed journals and local and national outlets.
