Kellie Wong, analyst with Hong Kong’s Lion Rock Institute, writes about Occupy Central with Love and Peace – a civil disobedience campaign for democracy and direct elections in Hong Kong. In late June more than 700,000 Hong Kong citizens — more than 10 percent of the population — cast votes in an unofficial poll on electoral reform. Wong writes about the potential impact of the unofficial poll. She says, “If the people of Hong Kong can freely nominate and vote for candidates, the people on the mainland may demand the same freedom for themselves.”
