It’s never too early for kids to learn basic economic principles. A new children’s book, The Tuttle Twins and the Road to Surfdom, is based on the award-winning book by Nobel laureate economist Friedrich A. Hayek, The Road to Serfdom, and written by Connor Boyack at the Utah-based Libertas Institute. It’s part of a series reaching a whole new generation for liberty.

“The fifth book in the acclaimed Tuttle Twins series brings F.A. Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom to life in a story that features a beach appropriately named ‘Surfdom,’” Boyack said. “Central planners use eminent domain to take a farmer’s land and create a new road leading to the taxpayer-funded beach attractions — but the unintended consequences and harmful results soon unfold, disrupting the entire community. Ethan and Emily Tuttle join their Uncle Ben to investigate the issue and discover stories of those affected by the central planning gone wrong, learning along the way that good intentions don’t necessarily justify bad results.”

Connor Boyack is president of Libertas Institute, a public policy think tank and Atlas Network partner in Utah. He is the author of several books on politics and religion, along with hundreds of columns and articles championing individual liberty. His work has been featured on international, national, and local TV, radio, and other forms of media. A California native and Brigham Young University graduate, Connor currently resides in Lehi, Utah, with his wife and two children.

“Three years ago I scoured the Internet looking for literature that would teach my young kids the ideas of liberty,” Boyack said. “There was basically nothing — no books that I could buy. So we started creating them through the Tuttle Twins series, where each book is based on a classic liberty text, such as Bastiat’s The Law, Leonard Read’s I, Pencil, Hazlitt’s Economics in One Lesson, and more. The books have been selling like crazy, helping us reach an entirely new generation (and their parents, many of whom are not familiar with these books or ideas) with our important message.”

The Tuttle Twins and the Road to Surfdom can be ordered online. The books are currently being translated into other languages, reaching children all over the world.
