Two hundred years ago, 90% of human beings lived in conditions we now classify as extreme poverty. Since the emergence of capitalism, this figure has plummeted from 90% to 9%.

This fact should be celebrated and studied more than it is.

When curious minds grapple with the question, How has prosperity replaced poverty in so many places? they discover the miracles of free enterprise—eloquently described in Antonella Marty's important new book—including how the profit motive fosters cooperation and innovation, all to satisfy human wants and needs.

Atlas Network is privileged to collaborate with more than 500 think tanks in over 100 countries, which are working toward a vision of a free, prosperous, and peaceful world where the principles of individual liberty, property rights, limited government, and free markets are secured by the rule of law.

Our independent partners focus on public policy changes that could enhance human well-being. They are well-positioned to use their local knowledge to remove the barriers that prevent people in low-income communities from thriving.

This is important work that merits the attention and support of all who genuinely care for the hundreds of millions of people who remain in poverty today.

More than ever, we need to make the case that it is liberalism, and the free institutions upon which it depends, that can deliver social mobility, legal equality, and dignity to all people.

I am enormously grateful for the presence of young people like Antonella Marty, who are bringing enormous and renewed energy to this effort for freedom.
