Atlas Network Announces Africa Smart Bets Finalists

Date: Jul 23 2026

Atlas Network is pleased to announce the three finalists for the 2026 Africa Smart Bets competition, recognizing emerging organizations with bold ideas to advance liberty and prosperity across the continent. The Smart Bets program encourages Atlas Network partners to think big by supporting innovative projects with the potential to create lasting policy impact.

The winner will take the stage at Liberty Forum & Freedom Dinner 2026 in New York City, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness the passion and innovation behind their pitch. Below are three standout visionary proposals, each showcasing a unique strategy to advance the principles of liberty and a freer society in their region.

Free Future Foundation

Across many Nigerian communities, some of the most persistent barriers to freedom are local, everyday challenges, like excessive taxation, abandoned public projects, and unresponsive local authorities. These problems continue not because citizens lack concern but because communities lack organized mechanisms to turn awareness into action.

Free Future Foundation is addressing this challenge by building a new generation of local accountability leaders through its Liberty Leadership Academy and Mandate Circles model.

The project begins with a 12-week fellowship program that equips young leaders with the tools needed to be advocates for change, like civic analysis and public communication. After completion, fellows establish Mandate Circles in their communities, which are organized groups focused on addressing specific local barriers to freedom and holding public institutions accountable. Rather than waiting for problems to escalate during election cycles, Mandate Circles create a continuous structure for accountability.

Early results are already showing. Free Future Foundation has trained 22 fellows, several of whom have launched active Mandate Circles in their communities, focusing on issues like market taxation, education failures, and even helping reopen a local market. Through Smart Bets support, Free Future Foundation aims to grow this Liberty Leadership Academy and the Mandate Circle model, training more young leaders, and continuing to create meaningful governance improvements across Nigeria.

Solidarité d’Actions pour le Développement Intégral (SADI)

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, especially in the eastern provinces of South Kivu and North Kivu, women continue to face barriers to participation in economic, social, and political life. Patriarchal norms limit access to finance, and exclusion from decision-making spaces has restricted opportunities for women and weakened the possibilities for lasting community prosperity.

Solidarité d’Actions pour le Développement Intégral (SADI) is addressing these challenges through Woman Can, an initiative designed to position women as leaders, entrepreneurs, and advocates for change.

The project combines leadership development, entrepreneurship, and public engagement to strengthen women’s empowerment. Through this initiative, SADI has trained 150 women and girls in leadership, entrepreneurship, and advocacy skills while working with policymakers and community leaders to build a more supporting environment for women’s participation. Through a digital and media campaign, the project will amplify women’s voices and challenge societal gender roles, reaching more than two million people. Women Can will also engage 200 men as allies through workshops focused on gender equality and positive masculinity.

During its initial phase, SADI trained 43 women in Kabare and 47 women in Bukavu, with its digital campaign reaching more than 150,000 people in just three months. With Smart Bets support, SADI seeks to turn Woman Can into a broader movement, strengthening women’s leadership, expanding economic opportunity, and advancing inclusive development throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Malkia Africa

Despite women’s integral part in driving economic activity, particularly in agriculture, many continue to face barriers to owning property and accessing resources.

Malkia Africa’s HER Voice: Scaling Liberty and Policy Power Across Africa (SLAP Africa) seeks to close this gap by building a continent-wide digital platform that equips women with legal knowledge, connects them to a community of advocates, and transforms their experiences into policy influence.

The HER Voice Digital Hub provides women with access to legal literacy resources, leadership training, peer networks, and advocacy tools. The platform bridges the gap between existing legal protections and the realities women experience by helping them understand their rights and engage in policy conversations. It is at once a digital learning space and a civic engagement space.

HER Voice aims to build a scalable infrastructure for women’s participation in reform across Uganda, Ghana, and Morocco. By creating a stronger, more informed constituency of women advocates, women’s voices are not only heard but incorporated into decision-making processes. Through Smart Bets support, Malkia Africa will expand the HER Voice Digital Hub and strengthen women’s ability to influence policies that advance freedom and opportunity.

The 2026 Africa Smart Bets finalists represent the creativity, ambition, and determination of organizations working to solve complex challenges through innovative approaches. Their projects demonstrate how bold ideas can create lasting progress when combined with local knowledge and strong leadership.

Stay tuned as Free Future Foundation, Solidarité d’Actions pour le Développement Intégral, and Malkia Africa pitch their ideas live, and discover which organization will be named the 2026 Africa Smart Bets winner at Africa Liberty Forum 2026. The regional winner will go on to represent Africa as a finalist at Atlas Network’s Liberty Forum & Freedom Dinner in New York City, where they will compete alongside Smart Bets winners from around the world.
