Our Community:

The Freedom Movement

The freedom Movement

The freedom movement is not a single institution but a worldwide community of people who believe that human liberty is the surest path to peace, prosperity, and dignity. This is the community that engages with Atlas Network: a diverse, global network of thinkers, doers, entrepreneurs, and everyday citizens united by a commitment to help people flourish in free, open societies.

The People of the Worldwide Freedom Movement

The worldwide freedom movement is made up of people who devote their time, resources, and expertise to solving social challenges through the expansion of liberty. As our CEO Brad Lips explains in his book,
The Freedom Movement, members of this community pursue a two-fold mission:

  1. A contest of ideas—demonstrating why freedom-based systems produce better, more moral, and more beneficial outcomes than coercive alternatives.

  2. A practical effort to implement change—advancing reforms that deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives. This movement trusts in secure rights, open markets, and civil society, not top-down control, as the enduring foundations of a flourishing society.
Worldwide Network

A Worldwide Network, Locally Led

Atlas Network partners with approximately 500 independent pro-freedom think tanks and civil society organizations in more than 100 countries around the world. These partners are deeply rooted in their own cultural and political contexts, giving them the knowledge and credibility to propose reforms that make sense for the communities they serve.

Because our partners are independent, they shape their own priorities and strategies.

Atlas Network strengthens their work through our Coach, Compete, Celebrate model—which is focused on stoking ambition and speeding innovation among peers in a network.

The result is a dynamic worldwide freedom movement that is fueled by a love of the freedom of others, that is united by shared values, and that leverages local leaders’ knowledge of the context in which they work.

Community Achieves

What Our Community Achieves

Around the world, partners in the freedom movement advance practical reforms that protect people from government overreach and expand the space for individual initiative, including:

  • Securing property rights to marginalized communities
  • Opening economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and women
  • Improving transparency and accountability to curb corruption and cronyism
  • Defending free expression and promoting civic freedoms
  • Removing barriers that hinder innovation, voluntary association, and peaceful exchange
  • Strengthening the principles of a free society through educational, legal, and public-facing efforts that build respect for limited government, pluralism, and the broader culture of liberty—helping communities resist authoritarian and populist movements from both the left and the right

These accomplishments fortify free societies and ensure that individuals—not political leaders or state structures—remain the primary authors of their own futures.

Your Invitation to

the Freedom Movement

Many encounter the freedom movement for the first time through the work of a local partner think tank or at an Atlas Network event. One of the best introductions is Brad Lips’ concise and insightful book:

The Freedom Movement: Its Past, Present, and Future

This short read explains how the freedom movement developed, where it stands today, and why its work matters—highlighting real improvements happening worldwide through principled, locally led reforms. It’s a clear, accessible guide to the ideas and individuals that make Atlas Network’s community of pro-freedom partner organizations so vital.
