Leonid Nikonov

Leonid “Leo” Nikonov joined Atlas Network in 2026 as a Grants & Awards Manager. Before moving to the U.S. in late 2023, he worked in nonprofits and academia in culturally diverse countries such as Russia, Denmark, and Turkey. Leo’s experience includes leading an NGO in Russia under an oppressive political environment and working for the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. This background gives him an insider’s understanding of the needs and challenges that Atlas Network partners face around the globe. With an educational background in philosophy, political science, and public administration, he has authored publications on contract theory and applied ethics, and he is always up for a casual philosophical debate. He is also pursuing his EdD at the University of the Potomac in Washington, D.C., to further improve his organizational leadership skills. Leo currently resides in Maryland with his husband and their Russian Blue cat, Businka.
